083 Standing Stones, Brundeanlaws, Jedburgh.

Prev | Next

Description
These two standing stones are located in a young forestry plantation about 150 metres SSW of the summit of Moor Head, to the north of Brundeanlaws farm. The largest of the two stones reaches around 1.40 metres high and is packed with small stones around the base. The second stone, some 3.00 metres to the south, reaches only 0.70 metres high and appears to have been broken at some time.

Directions
Following the A68 south from Jedburgh, continue past Camptown. After the entrance for Edgerston, take the next left minor road leading to Pennymuir and later Hownam. Brundeanlaws farm entrance is about 2 miles along the road opposite a large forestry plantation. Follow the track on foot and turn right along a firebreak where the road brows the hill, near some pylons. The stones are quite obvious.

Parking
There is space for parking at the entrance to the farm/forestry plantation. Take care not to block access.

Fieldnotes
On the day of my visit my walk took me closer to the form, intending to turn right along the tarmac road, before heading up to the stones. To my dismay, I noticed a pile of branches and what appeared from the distance, to be some large boulders. I thought these might be the standing stones I was looking for. However, I continued round and eventually came across the "true" stones, still standing where they have stood for many a year.
