Fieldnotes
It was while browsing the online edition of Ordnance Survey
Six-inch 1st edition, Scotland, 1843-1882 maps at the National
Library of Scotland that I came across a brief reference to
something interesting, "The
Two Grey Stones". I set out
to investigate that same weekend and spent some time searching
the area, eventually noticed two large boulders, some
distance apart, in the vicinity of the ford across Tuppie's
Sike. Normally, I would not have thought that two such stones
had any significance, being simply stones lying on the moor.
However, I think they may be associated with the ford, perhaps
indicating where to cross. The roadway itself is also very
ancient adding some additional value to this theory.
