008 Cairnholy II, Kirkdale, Creetown.

Prev | Next

Description
Cairnholy II is the smaller of the two chambered cairns at this location and sits on a small hillock just a few metres from Cairnholy farm. This cairn lacks the splendid facade of the lower cairn yet still has a charm of its own.

Directions
The site is signposted from the A75 between Gatehouse of Fleet and Newton Stewart. Follow the very narrow, single track road until the Cairnholy I. To reach Cairnholy II, follow the farm tracks for 150m.

Parking
There is parking for a few cars at Cairnholy I. Vehicles are not permitted along the farm access road and this site must be reached on foot from Cairnholy I.

Fieldnotes
As with my visit to Cairnholy I, other visitors were at the location and did nothing to allow the peace and solitude required to fully appreciate this interesting location.
