021 Standing Stones, Dyce, Moffat

Prev | Next

Description
A straight alignment of three large standing stones situated beside the A701 road running between Moffat and Beattock. The stones are aligned ENE - WSW and range from 0.70 metres high to 1.00 metres high.

Directions
Take the A701 south from Moffat. The stones are on the right beside the grass verge after about one mile.

Parking
There is room to park a few hundred metres along the road from the stones, at the road junction/farm access road.

Folklore
Nothing to date other than a reference on RCAHMS to supposed a Site of Battle in the 13th century. No other information available.

Fieldnotes
Other than the stones themselves there is little on location to indicate any purpose to these stones. What evidence there might have been has likely been destroyed by the construction of the adjacent road.
