013 Rock & Spindle, St. Andrews.

Prev | Next

Description
Another interesting natural feature from the east coast of Fife. The Rock and Spindle is the remains of a volcanic vent, left over from an eruption about 300 million years ago and can be found within the tidal range of the beach at Kinkell Ness, a mile or so to the east of St. Andrews. Again, obviously not an antiquity but and 300 millions years old, definitely an "ancient stone"

Directions
From St. Andrews, on foot or by off-road bicycle, follow the coastal path to the south east. The Rock and Spindle is located about one mile along the Fife Coastal Path.

Parking
There is no parking near to this stone. Vehicles are best left in St. Andrews.

Fieldnotes
Worth a visit if in the area and also if you are into geology, as the Rock and Spindle has some interesting geology associated with it.
