Description
Not far from three other standing stone (031, 032 and 067) can
be found a small (possible?) standing stone, which is
earth-fast, measuring 0.80m high x 0.64m wide x 0.15m thick. The
top corner of the stone appears to be missing. This stone does
not appear to be recorded by RCAHMS.
Directions
The stone is off the A708 Selkirk to Moffat Road, at Yarrow Kirk,
Yarrow. It can be seen from the road leading to Whitehope Farm,
between the tarmac road opposite Yarrow Kirk and the burn.
Parking
A small lay-by can be found near the site and a larger parking
area can be seen at Yarrow Bridge. Take care as the road can be
busy at times.
Fieldnotes
This stone certainly seems out of place and does look as if it
has been erected deliberately between the ancient drove road to
Traquair, possibly known as Annan Street and the Wulrus Burn.
The stone appears to have been broken at some time in the past
and when complete would have looked like a grave marker. Perhaps
this is an un-consecrated grave, the occupant having been
refused entry to the graveyard at Yarrow Kirk only a few ten's
of metres away. The stone was pointed out by the occupant of
Warrior's Rest, when permission was being sought for access to
the garden.
